The man-made tunnel passes through a 20-metre-high cliff (about 20 yards) below the Sol i Mar Hotel. Keep in mind that to reach the beach, you have to go down a few steps, so this path is not fully accessible for anyone with limited mobility.
The official name of the beach you’ll come to in the distance is Praia do Peneco, but it’s more commonly known as Praia do Tunel – so don’t be confused if you hear both names – they’re the same place.

Belot was originally from Albufeira and is a beloved member of the city’s history. As you walk around, you’ll see a city street named after him.
Galeria Municipal João Belot is filled with his contemporary artwork. The space is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. It’s also closed on Sundays.
22. Igreja Matriz de Albufeira
This church is incredibly modest against the white buildings it blends in with. However, it is one of the best examples of neoclassical architecture in the Algarve. Inside is its main attraction — an altarpiece depicting Albufeira's patron saint, Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
The church also houses a 15th-century statue of Nossa Senhora da Orada, the patron saint of fishermen. Every year, on August 15, local fishermen take out a procession. The statue is first brought back to the nearby Convento de Nossa Senhora da Orada, where it was originally kept.
The Igreja Matriz de Albufeira is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. On Sundays, the church is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The beach gets its name from the colorful fishing boats that used to fill the water. The number of boats gradually decreased until the remaining boats were relocated to the Albufeira Marina. Now, the beach is covered with bathers and their colorful towels.
The easiest access to Fisherman's Beach is from 25th April Square. The beach has sunbeds for rent and toilet and shower facilities. In summer, a lifeguard is on duty.
25. Praia da Falésia
Located near Albufeira and Vilamoura, Praia da Falésia (meaning "Beach of Cliffs") is one of the longest beaches in the Algarve. At over 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) long, this beach is known for its red and orange sandy cliffs.
In 2018, Praia da Falésia was voted the number one beach in Portugal, the third best in Europe and the 12th best beach on TripAdvisor. Its natural beauty and relatively calm sea conditions make it a great place to swim and enjoy water activities.
26. Praia da Coelha
Praia da Coelha embodies everything that is Algarve - rugged cliffs, clear waters and bright sand - surrounded by the wild, abundant nature of the region on this small beach.
This beach is a favorite with locals, so while it is quiet on weekdays, it fills up quickly on weekends. Of course, because it is a great place for everyone, even families. The sand is soft, and the water is easy to paddle in. However, if you go further from the shore, the seabed becomes shallower and the currents become quite strong.
The beach is located about 5 km (3 miles) west of the center of Albufeira. Driving is the easiest way to get there. Taking the public bus is also an option, but you will have to walk to the beach for about 10-15 minutes.
27. Praia da Oura
Praia da Oura is best known for its wild nightlife scene. The beach is located about 3 km (1.8 mi) east of the center of Albufeira but within walking distance of the Strip. Parties from the Strip often spill onto the beach late at night and into the early hours of the morning.
However, during the day, Praia da Oura is quiet, clean, and a great place to spread out your beach towel. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer.
You can enjoy water sports here, such as diving, jet skiing, or parasailing. The bars and restaurants along the beach are much quieter even during the day.
28. Praia Santa Eulalia and Praia da Balaia
Praia Santa Eulalia is a paradise for families, located just 4 km (2.5 mi) from the busiest center of Albufeira. With easy parking and a gentle slope, it is popular with people of all ages. The facilities are of a high standard, with sunbeds available for a relaxing day by the sea. Lifeguards are on duty during the busy season, ensuring a safe environment for everyone.
A stone's throw away, Praia Santa Eulalia, Praia da Balaia offers a more secluded setting. Just 3 km (1.9 miles) east of Albufeira, it is a quiet retreat for those looking to relax. The smaller beach has fewer facilities, making it a peaceful alternative to the more popular spots.
It is accessible by a short walk from the main road. Remember that there are no lifeguards, so swim with caution. Both beaches promise a fun day out, with Santa Eulalia offering the amenities and Balaia the tranquility.
29. Praia de São Rafael

This is the smallest beach in Albufeira, but at low tide, there’s plenty to explore. You’ll definitely want to wear good water shoes as the ground is very rocky and uneven. However, you’ll find small rock pools all around, and small creatures like crabs or small fish floating around them.

Praia da Gale is a quiet beach within easy reach of Albufeira’s centre – just 6 km (about 3.7 miles) away – offering a unique mix of accessibility and relaxation.

32. Olhos de Agua

This beach is located in a village of the same name, about 6 km (4.5 miles) east of Albufeira. While the clearest water for swimming is at the eastern end of the beach, walking west is where you’ll find more space on the sand to spread out your beach towel.

At low tide, you can walk east along the coast to Vilamoura — about 6 km (4 miles) away.

34. Marina Beach
Marina Beach, or Praia da Marina, is considered one of the most emblematic coastlines in the Algarve, with its golden sand and towering limestone cliffs. 35. Ferragudo

The easiest way to get to Ferragudo from Albufeira is by car or taxi. It’s about 40 kilometers or 25 miles by car and takes about 40 minutes.
Alternatively, you can take a bus, but you’ll have to make a different stop. The fastest journey will take you via Lagoa — about an hour in total. Or you can travel via Portimão, which will take about two hours. Bus schedules can be found at Vamos Algarve.
36. Silves
